Church of St Mary

The first St. Mary’s Church was built in 1883. A strong local tradition suggests that this was the site of a mass-rock in the penal times. Part of the 1883 church stood until 1987.

The new St. Mary’s Church, incorporates much of what was best in the design of the modern churches that were built in Ireland after Vatican II. This is true both in its outside appearance, and in its beautiful and functional interior.  The window over the main entrance depicts saints at the centre of Irish traditional spirituality, Iosa, Muire agus Iosef, with Padraig, Bríd agus Colmcille. These were taken from windows in the 1833 church and surrounded in this window by the heavenly blues and greens and gold of the other modern windows.
